Top Secret Event for Steve JobsWe have seen Steve Jobs get excited about virtually every product or feature that he releases during these events. It doesn’t matter if it is cover flow in iTunes, or the unveiling of the iPod, Steve Jobs has a hard time holding in his excitement. Steve Jobs has done a lot for this industry. He has virtually invented the personal computer, he created the first graphical user interface, he has created some of the earliest fully enclosed modern computer units (iMac/ eMac), taken on the music industry with the iPod (and is now the #1 distributer of music through iTunes and makes the #1 music device with the iPod), and more recently he has turned the cell phone industry upside down with the introduction of the iPhone. What more is there to say? Steve Jobs has made some pretty revolutionary products that have changed the world that we live in. Now comes the real surprise, Jobs is now quoted by Michael Arrington of TechCrunch as saying: “This will be the most important thing I have ever done”.

Tablet photo leakedMac observer.com has released some leaked photos of the upcoming apple tablet glass. The photo also puts the tablet to scale for the first time by showing it on top of a macbook keyboard. It is about the same size as the keyboard verifying the notion of a 10″ tablet screen.

In addition, the photos also show us that the tablet truly appears to be nothing more than an oversized iPhone. We can see the menu button hole in the photos. The black outline around the screen also seconds that idea.

The photos are cryptic and low quality. We don’t know if they are real or not, but they do provide some added speculation to the mystery around the tablet device that is to be released this wednesday. Mac Observer says that they are from a “trustable source”, but doesn’t really clarify who that is.

All in all, the truth will come out in only 2 days. Let’s continue to hold our breath.

Mac OSX LeopardNo, there isn’t a new release of Mac OS X just yet, but there are obviously some users out there (mostly within Apple’s ranks) that are apparently testing out some early versions of the OS. This is known because of the sudden surge in web logs, where the user agent identifies itself as Mac OS X 10.7. Most of these users are coming from the IP Address 17.x.x.x. This further suggests that the release is still deep within Apple, but does give us evidence that the new system is in the works, and should be coming to us this fall.

Quattro Wireless Website[UPDATED Jan 5, 2009 @ 1:00pm Mountain Time]

Google and Apple have been becoming increasingly competitive lately. We have seen this is various forms, one of which being the fights over some mobile advertising businesses. Not very long ago, Google and Apple quietly fought over the purchase of AdMob, another mobile advertising company (a direct competitor to Quattro) for $750 Million.

According to sources inside of All Things Digital, Apple has just acquired AdMob’s competitor, Quattro. Sources say that the price is at $275 million and that the acquisition may be announced as early as tomorrow (January 5th, 2010). [Update: It has now been officially announced, the acquisition was indeed for $275 million and was announced today, January 5th, 2009. We are still waiting for more information as to what Apple plans to do with the new acquisition, although the obvious idea is to benefit and/or perfect mobile marketing on the iPhone, iPod touch and the upcoming and highly anticipated Apple Tablet.]

Both of these companies provide advertising to smartphone devices via the web. This is a smart acquisition considering the projected increase in Smartphone sales over the next few years. It is hard not to notice also that if Apple decides to announce the acquisition tomorrow, that it will coincide with the release of Google’s phone, the Nexus One (another ironic example of Google/ Apple competition).

Keep your eyes open tomorrow for this news to go mainstream.

Potential Use: Numbers? Patent Figure sent by Apple

It is no secret that Apple isn’t a big fan of the standard mouse and keyboard interface that most of us use everyday. During the keynote for the introduction of the iPhone, Steve Jobs admitted that Apple is “constantly searching for new methods to improve the ways in which we interact with out devices”, he then continued on to introduce the most advanced touch screen ever. This week Apple has filed a new patent for what could possibly be the next form of interactivity with next-generation macs: head-tracking.

Leopard Apple in Champagne

Ok, now The Mac Coach enjoys reading about rumors of upcoming Apple products as much as the rest of you. We get a kick out of what the creative minds have come up with using photoshop and wordpress, which is why The Mac Coach normally steers clear of becoming another Mac Rumor site unless of course the rumor is so outlandish and hysterical that we know that no one wouldn’t want to hear about it, or if the rumor is fairly certain and upcoming. Well in this case, we have found one that falls into the latter category.

Some advertisements have been unintentionally prematurely released by the apple.nl store (That is the Apple Online store in the Netherlands), which verify the rumor that a new mac lineup is on its way any tuesday now for the holiday season. Read the rest of this entry »
