New Mac Twitter Client: Kiwi

It is days like today that I love being a Mac user. Sure, Windows had the first run with Google Chrome (which ironically turned out to be the worst Mac browser I have every tested, but more on that in a later post), but today Mac users are able to use an exciting new twitter client called Kiwi. Furthermore, it will likely be Mac-only forever since it’s developer, Yourhead Software , produces Mac applications exclusively. While we may have lost with Chrome, at least we weren’t missing out on much of anything in that race, whereas this awesome app, “Kiwi”,  may cause poor windows users to loose sleep at night wishing they could get their over-tweeted hands on this beautiful App.

App Store Icon

Anyone that has purchased an app within the past few hours, or even someone who browsed the app store looking for say… free games (Appvent Calendar: free iphone game every day until christmas) will notice a new look in the app store. Apple has just released this new look and is starting to make the change to all of the apps. Not every app shows these changes just yet, but the greater part does.

So what’s the big deal? What is new? Am I even going to notice? Yes! These are big changes, and you will notice them. Read the rest of this entry »

Mac Logo and Google Logo

It has taken over a year for the elusive browser to make its’ way to mac. Ironic, only because the engine behind Chrome is WebKit, which was actually designed by Apple, for macs (specifically Safari), but nonetheless, you can download the browser starting today, in public Beta. Simply visit http://www.google.com/chrome.

There are many exciting features coming our way with this new browser, sadly as well, some features from Chrome in windows, will not be carried over to Mac. Read the rest of this entry »

One thing I have always enjoyed about my Mac is the high amount of free little applications that are available for it. For some reason, the mac community tends to scratch each other’s backs and create various little applications, that add functionality that you probably never thought you would want. I have ran across a countless number of these “mini apps” over the years and it is now my pleasure to present to you the top 5 mini mac apps that you never knew you needed. Once you start using these, you will probably never be able to live without them again. At the bottom of the article you will be able to give your own ratings for each application. No sign-up is necessary so be sure to vote.

Caffeine#5 – Caffeine

I guarantee no one ever thought that installing an app would solve this problem. But we have probably all felt the pain of life without it. Have you ever been watching a movie, presenting a keynote, or just plain staring at your computer when it all of a sudden dims or goes to sleep? We all know the solution… and we all go through the same process. It starts off by jiggling the mouse to wake it up again. Then we realize how annoying that could be, but go straight on working. A few seconds later it does it again. Now we are sort of upset, so we go to system preferences to change the screensaver settings, but then pause when we realize that we will probably forget to change it back again and will eventually come back to our macbook down the road and it will be dead because it didn’t auto-dim or auto-sleep. So we close system preferences and resort to jiggling the mouse every 30 seconds. However, every time we jiggle that mouse we think to ourselves, “I wish there was a better way”. Well now there is, load your computer with caffeine and it will never sleep again (well, until it wears off). Read the rest of this entry »
